Deltawood KEI, a specialist in swing chisel mortising machinery, has unveiled the latest addition to its product line: the RDC A, a fully automatic, CNC-controlled mortising machine designed for high-volume, precision performance

Ideal for the mass production of gate posts, door stiles and garden furniture components, the RDC A sets a new benchmark in efficiency and versatility for woodworking manufacturers.

The RDC A can be configured with one, two or three independently controlled CNC mortising heads, each programmable across the X, Y and Z axes. This flexibility allows users to tailor the machine to their specific production requirements. For example, when fitted with a single mortising head, the machine can accommodate workpieces up to 3,000mm in length. With two heads, the capacity adjusts to 2,400mm, optimising throughput for varying production volumes.

Automatic vertical hopper feed loading system

The machine features full-length vertical and horizontal hydraulic pressure beams that securely clamp each timber piece during processing. Each mortising head incorporates Deltawood KEI’s patented double eccentric design, allowing two chisel tools to operate simultaneously. 

This setup splits the workload during long or deep mortises, increasing efficiency and extending tool life.

Programming the RDC A is intuitive thanks to the user-friendly D-WOOD operating software, which includes parametric programming, woodpecker mode, and a graphical interface for visualising mortise positions and dimensions. A remote, movable control console with 24in monitor provides clear visibility of machine operations and allows for easy adjustments.

Discharge conveyor for mortised pieces

Timber loading is handled automatically via a vertical hopper feed loader mounted directly on the machine table. Each workpiece is automatically positioned, clamped and mortised, then transferred by an integrated pusher to the outfeed table. The outfeed can be configured for left- or right-hand operation, depending on setup. A pneumatic ejector then moves the finished piece onto inclined gravity roller tracks for easy collection by the operator.

Operator safety has been carefully considered. The RDC A includes lateral light beam sensors at the front of the machine and a fully enclosed safety cage around the sides and rear. An electrically interlocked access door allows for safe entry during chisel changes and routine maintenance, ensuring compliance with the latest health and safety standards.
