Dust control solution from DCE supports TKC’s expanding kitchen manufacturing

TKC is one of the UK’s leading specialist suppliers of components and complete kitchens to the kitchen industry. Founded in 1989, the business employs over 150 staff and operates from two purpose-built premises in Denton, Manchester. The company is focused on ensuring the TKC name is synonymous with quality products, first-class service and excellent value for money.

In response to growing demand for textured finishes, TKC recently invested in a new manufacturing cell dedicated to producing ranges that enhance its kitchen offering. This process inevitably generates large volumes of wood dust and chippings, prompting TKC to take proactive steps to protect its workforce, maintain smooth operations and ensure product integrity.

To achieve this, TKC partnered with Dust Control Environmental Ltd (DCE), specialists in industrial extraction, to design and install a tailored dust control system for its new timber facility, ensuring these high standards are consistently met.

Project requirements

The new manufacturing cell required a dust extraction system that was both high-performance and space efficient. It needed to effectively control MFC dust, wood chips and fine particulates produced by two CNC machines, while also incorporating waste collection containers that were simple and safe to empty.

Crucially, dust had to be captured directly at source to protect employees, maintain clean working surfaces, and prevent the build-up of an unhealthy working environment.

How DCE met the requirements

Dust Control Environmental Ltd supplied and installed two ECO 60 dust collectors, each fitted with high-efficiency, low-noise fan sets to deliver powerful yet quiet performance. The system incorporated smooth-bore, clip-together ductwork to optimise airflow and simplify installation, which was completed on a fast turnaround to align with the delivery schedule of TKC’s new CNC machinery.

To maximise internal space and ensure long-term durability, the ECO units were installed externally and fitted with weatherproofing kits. Waste collection was streamlined using four easily accessible bins, secured with simple clamp mechanisms and fitted with sight glasses to allow quick visual checks of fill levels.

The system also features UltraFilter seamless bag technology, integrated into the ECO units to deliver consistent and reliable filtration.

The benefits

The two ECO 60 dust collectors, now fully operational within TKC’s CNC machining cell, deliver a range of ongoing benefits that enhance both safety and productivity:

  • Effective containment of hazardous wood dust and particulates, including MFC and fine chipboard residues

  • Improved air quality, ensuring a compliant and healthy working environment

  • Prevention of cross-contamination, protecting adjacent operational areas from airborne dust migration

  • Enhanced paint finish quality, with dust settlement on drying surfaces eliminated

  • Low-noise fan operation, creating a quieter and more comfortable workspace

  • Simplified waste management through easy-to-monitor bins and efficient collection systems

  • Durable UltraFilter bag technology, reducing maintenance requirements and replacement frequency
