Mirka expands Iridium range to boost productivity & reduce downtime

Mirka’s premium Iridium™ abrasive range is expanding with a wider range of grits and a series of technical upgrades designed to deliver fast cutting performance on fillers, primers and wood surfaces

The upgrades are designed to provide a high-quality surface finish, reduce process times and increase productivity, with the abrasive cutting faster to reduce processing time by up to 15%. The abrasives are also designed to be hard-wearing, helping to minimise tool downtime and enabling users to focus on different stages of the process without having to worry about which abrasive they need next.

The paper-backed discs provide consistent performance and durability thanks to new ceramic grain technology. This includes improved grain distribution and optimised grain orientation, an updated top-coat resin and enhanced anti-clogging properties. Together, these features enable faster, sharper cuts and longer-lasting performance.

There is also a focus on environmental sustainability, with the energy required to produce the abrasives reduced by up to 90% compared with conventional production technology. Increased efficiency can also help to reduce waste and optimise material usage.

The upgraded Iridium range now offers a complete grit range, from ultra-coarse 40 grit through to ultra-fine 1200, 1500, 2000 and 2500 grits. The addition of the ultra-fine grits is particularly beneficial to woodworking businesses, helping users achieve a highly polished surface finish.

The breadth of the Iridium range also gives businesses access to a premium abrasive solution that can cover the complete process. The range continues to be available in discs, rolls, sheets and strips, with the addition of perforated rolls. Its coarse and fine grits make it suitable for both soft and hard surfaces, while the flexible backing provides excellent grain adhesion, with no loss of grains even when folded.

To complement the performance of the new Iridium abrasive, a double anti-clogging construction combines the abrasive grains with a dual dust-repellent surface treatment. This helps to reduce clogging and maintain consistent cutting performance throughout the life of the abrasive, particularly when used on softwood applications.

Neil Newbrook, Business Sector Manager, Wood, Mirka UK, says: “In the woodworking sector, abrasives are the lifeblood of the production process, so it is important that businesses have access to a complete solution. We see Iridium as a premium option for users who prioritise productivity, consistent performance and superior finish quality.

“In addition, the breadth of the range, from coarse to fine grits, ensures there is something for every application. Users can easily switch between applications without missing a beat, allowing them to spend more time focusing on the process.”
