Hemel Hempstead–headquartered James Latham recently won the British Woodworking Federation (BWF) Sustainability Award for its introduction of, and continued commitment to, a series of measures that support profitable sustainability.

BWF Awards judges commended James Latham, noting that the company has “fully embraced” sustainability. They also praised its commitment to achieving cost and carbon savings through management systems, investment in green energy, improvements to fleet and plant in addition to robust material recovery processes.

Ewa Bazydlo, Environmental Manager at James Latham, said: “We’re extremely proud of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, which is embedded throughout our business – from the use of sustainably certified timber products to the carbon calculator, which provides customers with product carbon data. It’s fantastic to have our work recognised by the BWF Awards. By celebrating steps towards more sustainable practices within our sector, we can share best practice and learn from each other as we move closer to the industry goal of net zero.”

Helen Hewitt, BWF Chief Executive, commented: “This year’s BWF Awards provided a fantastic opportunity for the sector to come together to recognise and celebrate the projects, businesses and people driving innovation and best practice across woodworking and joinery manufacture.

“Sustainability is a core focus not only for the woodworking and joinery sector, but also for the construction industry, as it works towards the Government’s ambitious net zero targets, supported by the Timber in Construction Roadmap and the Future Homes Standard. It’s exciting to see the progress being made at James Latham through the business’ clear understanding of responsible sourcing, its strong drive to improve and its ambitious carbon roadmap. Congratulations on your award win – I look forward to seeing how your sustainability initiatives continue to grow.”

The prize was presented at a celebratory awards evening, held on Friday 21 November at the Kimpton Fitzroy London.
