Carhartt’s Active Jac celebrates 50th anniversary

Carhartt is celebrating 50 years of an icon – the Active Jac. Since 1975, this jacket has stood for toughness and resilience: trusted by tradespeople, embraced by creatives and cemented as a cultural staple. And with a legacy like that, you don’t just turn 50 – you earn it.

For five decades, the Active Jac has been worn by people who put in the hard work, whatever the weather. To mark the milestone, Carhartt is releasing a series of limited-edition designs inspired by standout pieces from the archives.

“Since 1975, the Active Jac has stood as a symbol of perseverance and progress for the tradespeople shaping our world – and as proof of Carhartt’s commitment to making durable gear built to last,” says Susan Hennike, Chief Brand Officer at Carhartt. “Drawing on our heritage, the 50th Anniversary Active Jacs honour five decades of hard work while looking ahead to the limitless possibilities still to come.”

Originally released in denim with a red flannel lining, the Active Jac evolved into the legendary Brown Duck version in 1979. Since then, it’s been reimagined in flame-resistant editions, camo prints, women’s fits and fashion collaborations – yet its core features remain unchanged. It still has the protective hood, roomy pockets, rib-knit cuffs and waistband, along with a rugged Carhartt Duck shell.

For the anniversary, Carhartt is introducing limited styles inspired by the past, including:

• A Southwest edition featuring a Native American pattern by Bethany Yellowtail

• The return of Industry Red, a cult colour from the 1990s

• A washable waxed cotton version engineered by British Millerain, available exclusively online

• The Full Swing™ Loose Fit Washed Duck Insulated Active Jac, with stretch panels and Cordura® reinforcements for greater mobility
