Makita has introduced a new battery to its 40VMax XGT line of high-performance tools. The 4.0Ah BL4040F is the first Makita battery to feature tabless cell technology, delivering more efficient power output, longer runtimes and cooler operation. As the latest F-Type battery, it’s engineered for maximum performance in the most demanding applications.

Unlike conventional batteries, the BL4040F’s tabless lithium-ion cells eliminate current bottlenecks by connecting the full end of the electrode to the end of the cell, rather than through narrow tabs. This larger internal connection area reduces heat generation, even under heavy load, thus improving the battery’s overall lifespan.

A key benefit of the new design is that the battery can be recharged immediately after intensive use, without the need for a cooling period, which shortens overall charge times. Compared to the standard 4.0Ah BL4040, the new BL4040F delivers up to 36% longer runtime and runs 32% cooler.

Like all Makita F-Type batteries, the BL4040F is built for high-drain tools such as chainsaws, breakers and demolition hammers. Despite its compact size, it delivers the same 2.1kW maximum output as the larger 5.0Ah BL4050F, giving users the option of a lighter, more compact battery without sacrificing performance. In fact, the BL4040F is 34% more compact and 28% lighter than the BL4050F.

As with all 40VMax XGT batteries, the BL4040F is built for tough environments. It features a durable, impact-resistant casing, a triple-layer structure for protection against water and dust and Makita’s advanced digital communication system, which actively guards against overload, over-discharge and overheating.

Makita’s XGT platform now includes over 125 40VMax and 80VMax (2x 40VMax) products, covering a wide range of applications—from drills, impact drivers and saws to garden and grounds maintenance tools such as mowers, chainsaws and hedge trimmers.

“The new tabless BL4040F is specifically designed for the most demanding applications and delivers the superior performance, runtime and durability our customers expect,” says Kevin Brannigan, Marketing Manager at Makita. “This next-generation battery is part of our ongoing commitment to providing professionals with the high-performance tools they need.”
