Essex-based Mumford & Wood Ltd has won the BWF’s Woodworking Project of the Year Award for its handcrafted bespoke windows for London’s exclusive residential development, 1 Mayfair.

Sponsored by Anker Stuy Coatings – specialists in high-quality industrial coatings and paint products – the BWF Woodworking Project of the Year Award recognises innovation, exceptional design, outstanding application and the ability to deliver joinery that surpasses standard expectations.
The BWF Award judges described the bespoke windows created for 1 Mayfair as “a standout,” praising the project for its ability to modernise heritage by “creating new history while blending with both contemporary and existing style.”
Matthew Blaylock, Managing Director at Mumford & Wood, said: “The 1 Mayfair project is an unprecedented showcase of British joinery excellence – the most significant commission in Mumford & Wood’s 70-year history.
“We handcrafted 646 bespoke windows for the building, each an exercise in precision and artistry. This included curved-in-plan units and windows curved both in elevation and plan – the largest number of such windows we’ve ever produced for a London project. This project is not just about manufacturing windows; it’s about redefining what’s possible in heritage-sensitive joinery on a global stage. It’s an honour to see the skill, craftsmanship and dedication of our team recognised by the BWF Awards.”
Helen Hewitt, BWF Chief Executive, commented: “This year’s BWF Awards provided a fantastic opportunity for the sector to come together to celebrate the projects, businesses and individuals driving innovation and best practice across woodworking and joinery manufacture.
“Congratulations to Mumford & Wood for winning this prestigious award. The quality of entries for this year’s Woodworking Project of the Year set a high benchmark, but the complexity of producing such a large number of intricately designed windows for 1 Mayfair made this project exemplary. Demonstrating the skills and expertise required to deliver at such scale and intricacy, it’s a clear example of the talent within our sector.”
The prize was presented at a celebratory awards evening on Friday 21 November at the Kimpton Fitzroy London.
