Thanks to this new link, more than 50% of OHRA's future energy needs will now be covered by renewable wind power

In the presence of NRW Minister of Economic Affairs, Mona Neubaur, German heavy-duty racking specialist OHRA officially inaugurated its direct connection to the Berrenrather Börde Wind Farm in Hürth. “This marks a milestone in our decarbonisation strategy,” commented Dr Thomas Kießling, Chief Executive Officer of Hölscher Holding, to which OHRA belongs.

Part of a comprehensive transformation
The new 2,500m 20,000V direct line will deliver more than one million kilowatt hours of wind-generated electricity annually. “We're following a clear transformation plan with a firm target: Net Zero by 2045,” Dr Kießling continued. OHRA is also preparing further measures, including the conversion of building heating systems to heat pumps, electrification of powder-coating and paint-stripping facilities, expansion of photovoltaic systems along with the development of sustainable products.
Wind power for industry
To secure its supply of renewable electricity, OHRA has signed a direct Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with SL NaturEnergie – operator of the Berrenrather Börde Wind Farm. Such direct supply models allowe companies to source renewable energy locally and, as SL NaturEnergie Managing Director Klaus Schulze Langenhorst explains: “Are an essential pillar of a successful energy transition.”
Since on-site PPAs remain relatively rare in Germany, both companies are among the pioneers of this forward-looking supply model, which also enhances energy security, competitiveness and grid stability by avoiding costly redispatch measures.
Minister praises project
Mona Neubaur, NRW Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, stated: “Projects such as this one in Hürth bring together climate protection and economic viability, creating the foundation for a liveable region with future-proof jobs and attractive conditions for investment.”
