When the sun is strong, you need tough, durable clothing that helps protect you. Carhartt’s Sun Defender™ range, with a UPF rating of 40+, is engineered to keep tradespeople cool, comfortable and protected during the hot summer months.

Construction workers are among those most exposed to the health risks of working outdoors, spending long hours on site regardless of the weather. Despite making up only around 8% of the UK workforce, construction workers account for 44% of occupational skin cancer diagnoses and 42% of related deaths each year, according to Health and Safety Executive (HSE) data. Carhartt has developed the Sun Defender™ range to give tradespeople a practical, wearable line of defence against UV exposure without compromising on the durability and comfort the brand is known for.
All clothing in the range has a UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) rating of 40+. While a standard cotton T-shirt typically offers a UPF of around 5, blocking roughly 80% of the sun’s UV rays, Carhartt’s Sun Defender™ garments block more than 97% of UV rays, giving tradespeople a significantly higher level of protection during long days outdoors.
The range is engineered with Carhartt’s Force® and FastDry technologies, combining lightweight fabric that pulls sweat away from the skin with fast-drying performance to keep you cool and dry, even in warm conditions. Anti-microbial properties help prevent odours, so garments stay fresher for longer.

The Force® Slim Sun Defender™ Pants (107642) are tapered-leg trousers with an elasticated waist and a mobile phone pocket on the right leg. They are available in black and grey. The Force® Sun Defender™ Relaxed Logo T-Shirt is made from 100% polyester for fast-drying performance and a cooling feel, and is available in both long-sleeve (107202) and short-sleeve (107182) versions.
Carhartt’s Sun Defender™ range is durable, comfortable and dependable – exactly what tradespeople expect from Carhartt, with added protection built in for the summer months.
