The Trussed Rafter Association (TRA) has announced the winners of the 2026 Roofscape Design Awards, which attracted the most diverse range of entries in the awards’ history

The Roofscape Design Awards celebrate the year’s best trussed rafter and metal web projects, and this year’s winners showcase some truly outstanding designs. The judges received a record number of entries across all categories, reflecting a breathtakingly varied spectrum of roof design.
Winning projects
COMMERCIAL PROJECT OF THE YEAR
North Walls Cricket Pavilion, designed by Triad Timber Components Limited
Triad designed and installed a trussed rafter roof featuring glulam trusses for the Winchester Cricket Pavilion at North Walls Recreation Ground. The structure is highly distinctive, with a striking arrowhead-shaped footprint.
“A major challenge was the 1-metre overhangs below the bottom chord, outside the wall plate, which needed to accommodate a box gutter,” recalls Stephen Fuller, Triad’s designer on the project.
“They have delivered a safely constructed, sustainable, community-focused project that is beautiful to look at,” concluded the judges.

CONVERSION AND REFURBISHMENT PROJECT OF THE YEAR
Dalnarrow Cottage, designed by Pasquill
A derelict croft building has been transformed into a beautiful new home while successfully retaining the character of the original building. Close collaboration with the client resulted in a clean, simple full-length girder truss solution.
“Really listening to our customers’ challenges and understanding their vision allowed us to develop an effective design solution,” recalls Eve Macdonald, Pasquill’s designer for the project.
“Innovative truss design has been used to achieve a curved internal ceiling,” the judges noted. “This reduced site work and improved safety in a challenging remote location.”

RESIDENTIAL PROJECT OF THE YEAR
Waterside PH, designed by Donaldson Timber Engineering
“It truly pays to put in the work at an early stage,” recalls James Tothill of Donaldson. “Although the roof appears relatively simple on plan, every time we tried to use a standard detail we encountered a new challenge to solve.”
“This is a winning project that illustrates the value of partnership,” the judges said. “It demonstrates the benefits of involving the truss designer at an early stage.”

Individual award winners
These awards recognise the achievements of team members who go the extra mile.
CAREER DEVELOPMENT CHAMPION
Nicole Larking, Calldene Structural Timber Solutions
This award recognises Nicole’s outstanding career development over a sustained period, including through the challenges of the Covid pandemic and changing market conditions. It acknowledges her commitment to continuous learning, her willingness to embrace new challenges, and her dedication to supporting the needs of the business.
INNOVATION CHAMPION
Lee Kent, Donaldson Timber Engineering
Lee demonstrates that innovation can be achieved through incremental improvements and has shown that innovation applies to processes as much as products. He has provided the leadership needed to develop a site team with the
skills and knowledge to support continuous improvement.
SAFETY CHAMPION
Steve Hoult, Crendon Timber Engineering Ltd
Steve’s positive leadership sets an exceptional standard for operational safety. His work demonstrates that even challenging products can be manufactured, stored and delivered safely.
“It’s inspiring to see TRA members continuing to innovate, taking on increasingly complex projects while maintaining such high standards,” said Nick Boulton, Chief Executive of the TRA.
“The awards shine a spotlight on the possibilities of trussed rafters in creating imaginative roofscapes. They also celebrate the extraordinary people and teams behind them.”
